Electrical Engineering

Introduction

The Department of Electrical Engineering was established in the year 2018 with a vision to enkindle young minds in the field of Electrical Engineering. In this short span of time the department has started putting its sound footing in the minds of electrical engineering students. The Electrical Engineering being one of the core branches is dominating and will continue to dominate in the job market. Many consider electricity as the single most important parameter for the development of our society. It thus tells us the story of ceaseless job opportunities.

The department is serious about well being of our students in terms of quality technical knowledge and holistic attitude. It not only provides state of the art lab what MAKAUT prescribes but also what industry needs. The department is keen on conducting industrial visits, seminars, workshops, short term courses etc. for benefit of students. It boasts of dynamic, young and experience faculties in order to attain academic excellence. The department has intake of 60 students and offers B. Tech degree in Electrical Engineering duly approved by AICTE. The department is sincere and committed to make students ready for industry.

Basic electrical lab makes familiarization of basic electrical equipments like motors, generators and various meters and instruments used in electrical engineering. It is needless to mention that this lab forms the plinth for understanding and acquiring advanced knowledge of electrical engineering.

Electric Circuit Theory Laboratory

Electric Circuit Theory Laboratory

This lab teaches students to determine transient response of different electrical circuit, parameters of two port network and to find frequency response of filters, Laplace transform and inverse Laplace transform. Students are familiarizing with the generation of both discrete and continuous time signals, verify network theorems and to simulate electrical circuit experiments using software.

Analog Electronics Laboratory

This lab teaches students to analyse the characteristics of full wave rectifier with filter and without filter, characteristics of BJT and FET, characteristics of Zener diode as voltage regulator, characteristics of class A, C and push pull amplifiers and to verify function of DAC and ADC, to construct function generator using IC.

In this lab students need to identify and test appropriate instruments and electrical equipments, to construct circuits with appropriate instruments and safety precautions and to validate different characteristics of DC machine, methods of speed control of DC motor and parallel operation of the transformer.

This lab teaches students to identify appropriate equipment and instruments for the experiment, to test the instruments for application to the experiment, to construct decoder , multiplexer, adder and subtractor circuits with appropriate instruments to realize RS-JK and D flip flop, universal register with gates, multiplexer and flip-flops and asynchronous and synchronous up down counters and to validate the operation of code conversion circuit –BCD to Excess 3 & vice versa, 4 bit parity generator & comparator circuits.

This lab teaches students to evaluate and adjust the precision and accuracy of AC energy meter, moving iron and dynamometer type ammeter, voltmeter and wattmeter by potentiometer to measure voltage, current, power, energy, phase, frequency, resistance, inductance, capacitance.

  1. The department of Electrical Engineering organized a seminar on “Dive into Internships even if you are Fresher but Skilled” on 10th January, 2023 in Ground Floor Seminar Hall. Ms. Rajrajeswari Bag, student Internship Coordinator, IIC was the speaker of the event. Total 67 students were participated. Mr. Dipanjan Datta, Assistant Professor was the coordinator of the event.

  2. The students of the department participated and presented various projects in Tech Fest “VOYAGE 2022” organized by the college on 23rd & 24th Sept, 2022

  3. A Lecture Session was conducted on “Role of Teachers in Developing Innovation and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem” on 6th September, 2022. The speaker of the session was Prof. (Dr.) Arup Sinha.

  4. The department organized a 5-day Workshop on “Robotics, IoT and AI-ML” in association with Qmansys Infosolutions LLP (An ISO 9001:2015 certified company) during 25th – 29th August 2022. Mrs. Poulomi Das, Assistant Professor, was the coordinator of the event.

  5. An industrial visit was organised for 3rd and 4th year students at Electropulse Industries, Saktigarh Industrial Estate, Purba Burdwan on 4th June, 2022. Mr. Dipanjan Datta, Assistant Professor and Mr. Siddharta Ray, Pro-tem Lecturer were the co-ordinator of the event.

  6. The Department organized an Industrial Visit to “ITC Limited, Food Business Division, ICML Panchla Unit”, (WB) for the 3rd and 4th year students on 30th May, 2022.

  7. The department organized a webinar on “opting right career path in technology amongst recent global trends” by our alumni on 07th May 2022. The speakers of the event were Ms. Ishita Chakraborty, Associate Member of Technical Staff (AMTS), DXcorr Design Inc and Mrs. Mrinmoyi Manna, VLSI Design Engineer, DXCorr Hardware Technology. Mrs. Poulomi Das, Assistant Professor was the coordinator of the event.

  8. A webinar on “Energy efficient indoor lighting design using DIALux” was organized by the department on 29th April 2022. Speaker of the event was Ms Jeenia Dey, Assistant professor, Electrical Engineering Dept-Swami Vivekananda Group of Institutions. Mr. Dipanjan Datta, Assistant Professor was the coordinator of the event.

  9. A webinar on “Internet of Things” was organized by the department in association with Ardent Computech Pvt. Ltd. on 26th March 2022 from 2pm – 4pm. Mr. Shouvik Sarkar, Head Core Dept of Ardent Computech Pvt. Ltd, was speaker for the day. Mr. Swapan Kumar Majumder, Assistant Professor was the coordinator of the event.

  10. A virtual Alumni Meet on “Career Advancement on Completion of B.TECH” was organised by the department on 5th March, 2022 from 8pm-9pm. Ms. Pratyusha Das – System Engineer, Infosys (2021 pass out batch) was the speaker of the event. Mrs. Poulomi Das, Assistant Professor, was the coordinator.

  11. The department =organized an online Science Quiz Contest (OMEQUIZZARO-I) for class XI & XII science students on 20th & 21st September, 2020 respectively. 153 students from numerous schools across the state enthusiastically participated in the quiz.
  12. Department of Electrical Engineering organized a webinar on ‘Commissioning of Heavy Electrical Equipment’s & Scope of Electrical Engineers: India’s Perspective’ on 25th August, 2021. Mr. Joy Shankar Dutta, Project Engineer, VHEL was the speaker. Mr. Swapan Kumar Majumder, Assistant Professor was the coordinator of the event.

  13. The department organized a webinar ‘Challenges and opportunities for Electrical Engineers during and in post pandemic situation’ on 30th May, 2020 external speaker Mr. Saibal Kumar Kundu, an Associate Partner in IBM India in a Leadership position of Energy & Utility Department .
  14. An industrial visit was organised for the EE students at West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited in Bidhannager Salt Lake on 9th February 2020.

  16. An Intra-College PPT Presentation Contest-2k19 was held on 16th November, 2019.The ICPPC-2K19 encompassed the world of elemental engineering.

  17. The department organized an industrial visit at substation of Uluberia industrial growth centre rated 33/11 kv, a property solely under west Bengal state electricity development corporation (WBSEDCL) on 15th June 2019.
